New Eppendorf epMotion® 5070 & 5075 automated pipetting systems
Eppendorf has launched seven new models to its successful epMotion range of automated pipetting systems. Designed for effective, automated liquid handling applications, the new epMotion 5070 and epMotion 5075 systems provide a precise, accurate alternative to time-consuming manual pipetting and liquid handling tasks. The combination of accelerated operational speed, new software & hardware features and an increased number of worktable positions make the systems ideal for simple and flexible laboratory use across a wide range of liquid handling applications. The new Eppendorf EasyCon™ and Eppendorf MultiCon™ controllers work with touch, mouse or keyboard for very easy and convenient handling of the epMotion systems with an improved version of the well-established epBlue™ software. To ensure simple programming of applications, even for users with only initial training, a new concept of user guided software assistants is provided. Step-by-step the user is guided through the programming of applications like PCR setup, NA preparation or general liquid handling tasks. The five larger epMotion 5075 models can be ordered with the CleanCap option, with UV lamp for decontamination and HEPA filter for clean air inside the automation workstation. The smaller epMotion 5070 & 5070f are now available with automatic tool exchange and re-use tip capability and are our most compact solution for accurate and reproducible pipetting. The new epMotion 5075m is the most flexible member of the epMotion family of automated pipetting systems. With the large number of deck positions and the mixing, temperature control and magnetic bead separation abilities it is ideally suited for various applications in the lab.

Eppendorf Young Investigator Award 2014
Until 15 January 2014, young researchers working in Europe who are not older than 35 years are invited to apply for the Eppendorf Award for Young European Investigators. This highly prestigious prize was first established in 1995. It acknowledges outstanding contributions to biomedical research in Europe based on methods of molecular biology, including novel analytical concepts.
The winner is selected by an independent expert committee chaired by Reinhard Jahn (Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Göttingen, Germany).
The award winner 2014 will receive
- a prize money of 15,000 Euro
- an invitation to the prize ceremony at the EMBL Advanced Training Centre in Heidelberg, Germany, on 22 May 2014
- an invitation to visit Eppendorf AG in Hamburg, Germany
- coverage of his/her work by Nature in print and online

Eppendorf has introduced the new Reference 2 pipette to its range of liquid handling instruments. The Eppendorf Reference® 2 is the successor to the highly successful Reference pipette, and enhances the range’s already high standards with a new design, reduced weight and operating forces and multi-channel versions. As the premium product in Eppendorf’s pipette portfolio, the Eppendorf Reference® 2 provides the most accurate results possible alongside robust, reliable handling and optimum user safety. These levels of security make the Eppendorf Reference® 2 ideal for use with precious liquids, or in any application requiring extremely high levels of accuracy.
The Eppendorf Reference® 2 ensures complete traceability through the use of an embedded RFID chip containing all the instrument’s relevant data, including serial number and certificate of conformity. Furthermore, a serial number printed on multiple components of the pipette prevents parts from being mixed up and indicates if one of the volume defining parts has been exchanged. Nature podcast with Eppendorf Award 2013 winner Ben Lehner
Dr Ben Lehner received the Eppendorf Award 2013 for his discoveries concerning the fundamental question why mutations in the genome result in various phenotypes. According to the jury, ‘the results obtained by Ben Lehner are ground-breaking and offer novel approaches towards the understanding of genetic predisposition for diseases, particularly cancer. The insights obtained by his work are likely to lead to the development of novel therapeutic trategies’.

New Eppendorf PlateReader AF2200
Eppendorf continues a longstanding tradition with over 60 years of experience in the field of photometry. The latest member of our large and rapidly expanding range of products is the PlateReader AF2200. This instrument is specially designed for UV/Vis and fluorescence (top and bottom) readings in 6 to 384 well format.
The PlateReader AF2200 unites pre-programmed methods, easy programming of individual parameters and data evaluation with maximum flexibility. Pre-configurated filter slides are optimized to prevent cross-talk; personal filter slides can be easily created with the online FilterSlide Configurator. Accessories such as a broad range of microplates and a special microvolume plate offering diversity and flexibility. Ever since the launch of the company’s first performance-defining Mixer and the first Thermostat in 1964 Eppendorf has been at the forefront of mixing and temperature control technology for µL volumes. New: Eppendorf BioPhotometer® D30
The new photometers from Eppendorf offer additional measurement capabilities and features to the wide range of Eppendorf´s easy-to-use instruments that combine effective hardware with powerful and innovative software solutions. The detection instrument portfolio of Eppendorf is supported by accessories and consumables, such as the UVette®, a UV-transparent disposable cuvette, and the new semi-micro and macro Vis Cuvettes.
