New Eppendorf Reference® 2 pipette
Eppendorf has introduced the new Reference 2 pipette to its range of liquid handling instruments. The Eppendorf Reference® 2 is the successor to the highly successful Reference pipette, and enhances the range’s already high standards with a new design, reduced weight and operating forces and multi-channel versions. As the premium product in Eppendorf’s pipette portfolio, the Eppendorf Reference® 2 provides the most accurate results possible alongside robust, reliable handling and optimum user safety. These levels of security make the Eppendorf Reference® 2 ideal for use with precious liquids, or in any application requiring extremely high levels of accuracy.
The Eppendorf Reference® 2 ensures complete traceability through the use of an embedded RFID chip containing all the instrument’s relevant data, including serial number and certificate of conformity. Furthermore, a serial number printed on multiple components of the pipette prevents parts from being mixed up and indicates if one of the volume defining parts has been exchanged. Vital reproducibility is guaranteed by the channel indicator incorporated into the multi-channel version of the Eppendorf Reference® 2. This promises a continuously identical pipette alignment during the work process. The pipette also provides highly flexible use, with the ability to remove single cones, and easy maintenance.
The combination of one-button technology and spring loaded tip cone makes the Eppendorf Reference® 2 exceptionally easy and quick to use. The pipette achieves quick tip ejection with active aerosol reduction, and reduces the possibility of repetitive strain injury by eliminating the need to move your thumb sideways.
When there can be no compromise on quality and precision, Eppendorf’s new Reference 2 is an ideal instrument for these liquid handling applications. For more information, visit reference2.eppendorf.com
Nature podcast with Eppendorf Award 2013 winner Ben Lehner
Dr Ben Lehner received the Eppendorf Award 2013 for his discoveries concerning the fundamental question why mutations in the genome result in various phenotypes. According to the jury, ‘the results obtained by Ben Lehner are ground-breaking and offer novel approaches towards the understanding of genetic predisposition for diseases, particularly cancer. The insights obtained by his work are likely to lead to the development of novel therapeutic trategies’.

New generation of Eppendorf ThermoMixer®
Ever since the launch of the company’s first performance-defining Mixer and the first Thermostat in 1964 Eppendorf has been at the forefront of mixing and temperature control technology for µL volumes. Thanks to Eppendorf’s continuous development, an exciting new generation of Temperature Control and Mixing Instruments is now set to impress with excellent mixing results, outstanding temperature management and the ergonomics and simplicity essential for routine use in a busy laboratory.
The excellent mixing results of the new Eppendorf ThermoMixer® C, F1.5 and FP (two-in one instruments for combined mixing and incubating) are due to the unique 2DMix-Control technology which ensures fast and efficient mixing in just seconds and now offers reliable mixing solutions in 96- and 384 well plates. Controlled circular movements achieve thorough mixing of liquids in even the smallest volumes, while the anti-spill technology prevents lid wetting and cross-contamination.
For dry incubation, the new Eppendorf ThermoMixer® C and ThermoStat C are operated together with Eppendorf SmartBlocks which are easily exchangeable in just seconds, thanks to the unique Eppendorf QuickReleaseTM technology. These individually sensor-controlled SmartBlocks™ are the best solution for maintaining accurate, uniform temperatures. A wide variety of Eppendorf SmartBlocks support a broad range of applications and temperature-sensitive assays.
For best temperature control performance ever, Eppendorf also launches the unique Eppendorf ThermoTop®, a heated lid with condens.protect technology. This easy to use ThermoTop reliably prevents condensation formation on the tube lid and wall, and in addition supports temperature homogeneity of the thermo blocks to ensure excellent reaction conditions. Simple, wireless handling and its automatic recognition render the Eppendorf ThermoTop® indispensable for optimal performance.
Predefined program and temperature keys provide fast and easy access to the most frequently used mixing/temperature parameters. With simplicity and ease of use at the heart the new Eppendorf ThermoMixer® and ThermoStat instruments contribute to time-saving, stress-free operation and a pleasant working environment.
