Checking digital documents from epBlue GxP

  1. Downloading the Eppendorf epBlue Master Certificate
: Save the master certificate file.

  2. Importing the master certificate to a PDF viewer and checking its authenticity
The procedure for handling certificates is different for each PDF viewer. Additional information is available in the instruction manual of your PDF viewer.

    1. Import the master certificate from epBlue (MasterCertificate.cer file) into the PDF viewer. The master certificate was imported using the name Eppendorf epBlue CA.
    2. Check the authenticity of the master certificate. The check sums must match the following strings (capitalization is irrelevant):

    SHA1 digest 9E B7 33 3D 2A 8D 16 D3 82 C4 01 B8 AD A2 8B FF BF B8 87 70
    MD5 digest 47 90 88 69 77 44 B2 DB A2 AE 41 29 FF 1C EF 59

  3. Setting the trust level
If you are convinced of the authenticity of the master certificate, define the following trust settings to check signatures in PDF documents from epBlue:
    • Use the master certificate as a trusted root certificate.
    • Trust the master certificate for the signature of documents.
    • Trust the master certificate for certifying documents.

  4. Checking the signatures
Open a PDF document created by epBlue GxP and use the signature checking function of your PDF viewer. The PDF documents have two embedded digital signatures. If the signatures are valid, this proves that the documented was exported from epBlue by the signing user (authenticity), and that the document has not been changed (integrity).
