Tip the Balance

    Tip the Balance

Reduce your environmental impact, not your results

Single-use materials like tubes and tips are commonplace in many modern labs. Eppendorf has always been committed to delivering new, more sustainable solutions. Now reducing plastic is as simple as rememberingthe 3 R’s:

    1) Reduce plastic waste: up to 35% less polypropylene in our new epT.I.P.S. rack design
    2) Reuse: avoid disposable racks with our autoclavable box, pipette tip reloads and tips in bags
    3) Recycle: we use at least 90% recycled cardboard in our packing boxes, and they can be recycled again!

    Our commitment

    > Highest quality, virgin polypropylene (PP)
    > Production without the use of slip agents
    > Manufacturing according to ISO 13485 and ISO 9001
    > Full traceability for each product

TIPTalk of the Month – April 2020

Balancing the requirements of modern science with the environmental concern about plastic waste is a key challenge in managing a life science lab. Plastics are ubiquitous in modern life – and the world of laboratory consumables is no different.

But why does plastic fulfill such a pivotal role in the lab – and where there are opportunities for minimizing the environmental impact of scientific research?

Why Are Laboratory Consumables Not Made of Recycled Plastic?

With increasing awareness of the environmental impact of plastic waste and the enhanced burden associated with its disposal, there’s a drive to use recycled instead of virgin plastic wherever possible.

As many laboratory consumables are made of plastic, this raises the question as to whether it’s possible to switch to recycled plastics in the lab, and if so, how feasible it is.

Reduction of plastics is an ubiquitous need also in the laboratories worldwide. With the new epT.I.P.S. Rack Design for our pre-sterilized pipette tip variants, we reduce the consumption of PP by up to 35 % compared to the predecessor pipette tip racks.

The Tip of the Iceberg – How Pipette Tips Influence Results

Pipettes are tools widely used in the lab and usually purchased with care. However, as pipette tips are only consumables, they are not usually selected with quality in mind.
