The project currently supported by Eppendorf: Reforestation and income generation in Cuellaje, Ecuador
In the Cuellaje district, "GEO schützt den Regenwald e.V." is committed to the reforestation of communal and private areas and the generation of additional income for the local population.
Ecuador has one of the highest deforestation rates in the whole of South America. Clearing, slashing and burning, road construction works, housing development and copper mining pose a serious threat to the remnants of the once extensive mountain cloud forest in northwestern Ecuador. This type of forest accounts for only 2.5 percent of tropical rainforests, but has an impressively high degree of biodiversity.
Supporting the local efforts for protecting the mountain cloud forest in the Cuellaje district and preserving the ecological function of the forest.
