There are 2 different adapters for the 15 mL tubes. One for tubes with round bottoms and one with a conical bottom for conical tubes. Can I not use one adapter for both tubes?
No, unfortunately this is not possible. In order to be able to reach the high rotational speeds, the adapters must be form-locking.
Do the adapters for the 0.5 mL tubes fit into the rack for 1.5/ 2.0 mL tubes of the rotor T-60-11 for centrifuge 58xx?
Yes, the adapters can be inserted into the rotor for centrifugation of 0.5 mL tubes.
The writing on one rotor of the Centrifuge 5804/ 5804 R or 5810/ 5810 R says, for example, "6x125g". Does this mean that the centrifuge only enables an RCF of 125 or that it can only be loaded with a maximum of 6 times 125 gram?
This label states that the rotor can be loaded with a maximum of 6 x 125 gram. "g" is the official abbreviation for "gram". Where "g" is used as an abbreviation of "g-force", the number and "x g" are used. Example: 10,800 x g.
How many times can aluminum rotors be autoclaved?
Aluminum rotors can be autoclaved up to 100 times for 20 minutes at 121 °C.
Does the Centrifuge 58xx R has an energy saving function?
Yes, the ECO shut-off automatically switchs off the compressor after 8 hours of non-use. The device has a stand-by button.
Can the new rotor generation be used with older Centrifuges without retrofitting?
Yes, you can use the new rotors from software version 8.4 onwards. From versionb 7.0 on a software update to version 8.4 can easily be performed by trained service technician. In case of older software versions, the complete PCB control/frequency converter must be replaced. You can see the current software version of your centrifuge briefly on the display after switching it on.
How does the Centrifuge recognize that a different rotor is in use?
A new rotor automatically will be recognized as soon as it starts moving. Moving and recognition of the rotor can be performed manually by making it spin counterclockwise (roughly 200 rpm necessary), or by turning the Centrifuge on. As soon as the rotor starts spinning it will be recognized. When indicated, the Centrifuge shuts down under specification of max. speed in case the indicated max. speed of the previous rotor was higher. In this case the Centrifuge must be restarted.
Is it possible, in addition to 25 cm2 flasks, to use 75 cm2 flasks also?
Only a limited choice of 72 cm2 flasks are possible to be centrifuged: We recommend to use Saarstedt flasks (Article number 831811-002) with the cell culture flask adapter (Article number 5825719000) in combination with rotor A-4-81-MTP/Flex or A-4-62-MTP and Centrifuge 5810/ R.
Can the Centrifuge 5427 R be opened in the event of a power failure?
Yes, in the event of a power failure, the unit can be opened by means of the rotor key. Before the centrifuge is opened, always remove the mains plug from the plug socket and wait for the rotor to come to a standstill. For the emergency release of the centrifuge lid, the small plastic cap on the right front corner of the 5427 R has to be removed. Then insert the rotor key into the nut underneath the cap and open the lid latches by turning in anticlockwise direction.
How can the Centrifuge 5427 R be cleaned?
The Centrifuge 5427 R can be cleaned with neutral detergents. For disinfection, we recommend alcohol or alcoholic disinfectants. Make sure that the relevant legal requirements and directives are observed when choosing the disinfection method.
Sometimes my Centrifuge 5427 R displays "EP". What does that mean?"
EP" is displayed when the automatic standby function is active. If the centrifuge remains unused for more than 15 min., the standby function is activated, indicated by "EP" on the display. By using any key, the centrifuge is re-activated and ready to use.
Can the Centrifuge 5427 R automatically recognize an installed rotor?
The Centrifuge 5427 R has an automatic rotor recognition system. A newly installed rotor is recognized at the beginning of the run. The maximum speed of each rotor is automatically limited, if necessary, to prevent over-speeding of the rotors.
What benefits do I gain from the centrifugation of my samples with the swing bucket rotor?
One advantage of centrifugation with the swing bucket rotor is the possibility of sedimenting molecules that cannot be pelletized with a fixed-angle rotor (Microgradient, e.g. blood / Ficoll).
What is the benefit of a so-called Kit rotor?
When working with nucleic acid purification kits with spin columns by certain manufacturers, sometimes tube lids cannot be closed any more. This means you have to centrifuge with open tube lids. These tube lids might rip off during the stress of centrifugation and might damage the centrifuge. In order to prevent this, the kit rotor with the raised rotor rim was designed. Open tube lids, supported against the rim, will not rip off during centrifugation. Another feature of this rotor is the enlarged distance between the rotor bores. The enlarged distance between the bores offers a very convenient handling when loading / unloading the rotor. Especially when working with long spin columns (e. g. from Princeton Separations) you will need a larger distance between the bores to load the rotor fully and make use of the complete rotor capacity.

In particular, however, the kit rotor F-45-24-11-Kit is specially suitable for such spin columns, as open tube lids are supported by the raised edge of this rotor type and are no longer torn off (e.g. during elution of the sample from the column into a micro test tube)
What is "Fast Temp"?
The "Fast Temp" function is a temperature control run of the Centrifuge 5427 R without samples and with a rotor and temperature-specific rotational speed in order to quickly bring the rotor chamber, incl. the rotor, buckets and adapters, to the set nominal temperature. In order that the samples can be centrifuged from the beginning on at the desired temperature, one starts this temperature control run during sample preparation by pressing the "Fast Temp" key. The display shows the current temperature and the g-force (rcf) / rotational speed (rpm) as well as "FT" as symbol for a "Fast Temp" temperature run. You can find a more detailed description in the operating instructions of the Centrifuge 5427 R.
When does the continuous cooling of the rotor chamber start?
The continuous cooling starts with each rotor standstill of the Centrifuge 5427 R in order to maintain the preselected nominal temperature of the rotor chamber not only during centrifugation. To this purpose the following prerequisites must be met:
- The centrifuge is switched on.
- The centrifuge lid is closed.
- The nominal temperature is lower than the ambient temperature.
- The centrifuge is not in standby mode.
Continuous cooling is ended by opening the centrifuge lid or by pressing any key.
What is the lowest temperature that can be reached with the Centrifuge 5427 R?
The lowest temperature of the Centrifuge 5430 R is -11 °C. The device is thereby optimized with all rotors in such a way that at least 4 °C is maintained with all rotors at the appropriate maximum speeds.
What is the temperature range of the Centrifuge 5427 R?
With the Centrifuge 5430 R it is possible to set the temperature within a range from -11 °C to +40 °C.
Does the Centrifuge 5427 R has an energy saving function?
Continuous cooling is switched off if the centrifuge is not used for longer than the preset time. The centrifuge switches to standby mode.

What is the SOFT function?
The SOFT function of the Centrifuge 5427 R allows slower and gentler acceleration and braking compared to the normal acceleration and braking times. As a result, delicate samples are not stressed unnecessarily. In addition, the risk of the pellets being shaken up again during braking is minimized.
