What is Vacuum panel technology?
Vacuum insulation panels are used in Eppendorf Innova, HEF (high efficiency) and most CryoCube freezers for maximum storage and maximum energy savings by providing more effective thermal insulation than traditional foams.
What is the function of an auto vent port ?
When freezer door is opened ambient air rushes into the freezer. When the door is closed, this air is compressed and a vacuum is created. Eppendorf freezers are equipped with an auto vent port on the left hand or integrated in the front panel (CryoCube) to equalize the pressure. This operates automatically but can be used manually by pressing the button in addition for quicker access.
How do I defrost my Eppendorf – 86 °C ULT freezer?
After extended period operation, defrosting may become necessary. Please refer to your Eppendorf freezer manual for step by step direction on how to defrost the unit.
What does a CO2 or LN2 Backup System provide?
The Backup Systems are independent systems which provide protection of samples in case of a power or unit failure by injecting liquid LN2 or CO2 into the unit. It is controlled by an independent temperature sensor. Carbon dioxide systems will maintain temperatures between -40 °C and -70 °C for a period of up to 48 hours. Liquid nitrogen back-up systems will maintain the freezer temperature at -86 °C for few hours. CO2 and LN2 systems can be retrofitted by the Service.
Can I connect the freezer to my building management system (BMS)?
All Eppendorf freezers are provided with an alarm monitoring socket at the rear of the freezer and a matching plug. The device can be connected to a central monitoring system (building management system) for freezer alarm monitoring. Eppendorf also offers an independent chart recorder.
What is the material of the inner chamber?
All Eppendorf ULT Freezer provide stainless steel chambers without rust build up, scratches and easy cleanability.
Can the ULT freezers be placed in a room with ambient temperature of 4 °C?
This is not possible. Our Freezers are specified to operate in ambient temperatures between 10°C and 32°C.
What are the height requirements when placing the CryoCube F101h under a work bench?
The external dimensions are 83 x 90 x 56.6 cm (HxDxB).
The work bench should allow for a clearence of at least 85 cm, measured from the bottom edge of the bench to the bottom floor.
What kind of cooling liquids are used for the CryoCube F101h?
The cooling system operates with "green" cooling liquids (R290/ R170) only.
In 2014, the European Union announced a ban of all non-hydrocarbon-liquids (EU_517/2014) until 2020 (also known as "F-gas regulation"). Hydrocarbons are also known as green or natural gases. The two major representatives are propane and ethane (known as R290 and R170). This ban includes all cooling devices except instruments for temperatures below -50°C. Based on this exception, ULT freezers of -86°C can continue to run with HFCs. Still, it makes sense to replace the HFC cooling liquids also for ULTs as global warming needs to be slowed down.
What kind of racks are available for CryoCube F101h?
CryoCube F101h freezers have 2 internal compartments, each of which can hold three racks.

Is the CryoCube F101h provided with inner doors?
The chamber is divided by 2 inner doors sealing the two internal compartments.
The inner doors are equipped with seals to minimize the loss of cold when opening.
What material is used for the inner chamber of the CryoCube F101h?
The inner chamber of CryoCube F101h, like all other Eppendorf ultra-low temperature freezers, is made of stainless steel and is therefore resistant to a large number of disinfectants, scratches and rust.
Can the CryoCube F101h be locked with a key?
Yes, a lock is integrated in the door handle of the CryoCube F101h. Two keys are available.

The control panel of the CryoCube F101h is located in the upper right corner on front of the device.
What kind of insulation is used for the CryoCube F101h?
The Freezer is insulated using polyurethane foam (PU) as well as vacuum insulation panels. This results in a low energy consumption of the F101h and leads to long warm-up time during power failure.
What means "Pull down time"?
This is the time required for a unit to pull down from Room temperature to -80 °C. This usually takes between 3-4 hours for an Eppendorf freezer. The pull down data for Eppendorf freezers can be found in our familiy brochure "Pure. Ultracold".
How many boxes fit in an Eppendorf CryoCube F440n / F440h ?
In one of the five compartments 4 racks will fit. The storage capacity is 20 racks per freezer, 16 boxes per rack and in total 320 x 2" boxes per freezer.
What is the design of the inner chamber of the CryoCube F440h and F440n ?
The chamber of CryoCube F440h and F440n is composed of 5 compartments with 5 inner doors. It is made of stainless steel, which is easy to clean and disinfect.
What are the safety features of the CryoCube F440h/n ?
The handle can be locked with an integrated lock and additional padlock. A lockable metal plate protects the main and battery switches from accidental disconnection. All settings (alarms, delays and setpoints) can be protected by an individual code.
What is the pull down time, i.e. the time it takes for the CryoCube F440h/n (230 V/115V) to cool down from ambient to -80°C ?
The pull-down time for the CryoCube F440h is 215 min for 230V and 180 min for 115V.
The pull-down time for the F440n is 3h 35 min for the 230 V variant and 3h for 115 V.
How does the insulation of the CryoCube F440h differ from that of the CryoCube F440n ?
The insulation of the CryoCube F440h is composed of environmental friendly polyurethane foam and vacuum insulation panels. The CryoCube F440n is insulated exclusively with PU foam.
Are the racks of the U410 or U410HEF compatible with the CryoCube F440h/n ?
