What kind of cooling liquids are used for the CryoCube F101h?
The cooling system operates with "green" cooling liquids (R290/ R170) only.
In 2014, the European Union announced a ban of all non-hydrocarbon-liquids (EU_517/2014) until 2020 (also known as "F-gas regulation"). Hydrocarbons are also known as green or natural gases. The two major representatives are propane and ethane (known as R290 and R170). This ban includes all cooling devices except instruments for temperatures below -50°C. Based on this exception, ULT freezers of -86°C can continue to run with HFCs. Still, it makes sense to replace the HFC cooling liquids also for ULTs as global warming needs to be slowed down.
What kind of racks are available for CryoCube F101h?
CryoCube F101h freezers have 2 internal compartments, each of which can hold three racks.

Is the CryoCube F101h provided with inner doors?
The chamber is divided by 2 inner doors sealing the two internal compartments.
The inner doors are equipped with seals to minimize the loss of cold when opening.
What material is used for the inner chamber of the CryoCube F101h?
The inner chamber of CryoCube F101h, like all other Eppendorf ultra-low temperature freezers, is made of stainless steel and is therefore resistant to a large number of disinfectants, scratches and rust.
Can the CryoCube F101h be locked with a key?
Yes, a lock is integrated in the door handle of the CryoCube F101h. Two keys are available.
Where do I find the control panel of the CryoCube F101h?
The control panel of the CryoCube F101h is located in the upper right corner on front of the device.
What kind of insulation is used for the CryoCube F101h?
The Freezer is insulated using polyurethane foam (PU) as well as vacuum insulation panels. This results in a low energy consumption of the F101h and leads to long warm-up time during power failure.
Cleaning/Disinfection: How should I clean/disinfect my Galaxy incubator?
Currently, the only acceptable disinfecting agent is a solution of 70 % Isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol)and 30 % distilled water. Carefully follow the cleaning guidelines described in your user’s manual.
Cleaning/Disinfection: I am interested in the high-temperature disinfection (HTD) option for periodic preventative maintenance. What can you tell me about its effectiveness?

Data Logging: Can I externally data log my incubators?
Yes, all new Galaxy incubators come with an integrated RS-232 port that allows data to be logged remotely using BioCommand® SFI software.
Direct Heating Advantages: I am hesitant to move from a water-jacketed incubator to a direct heat system. Why should I switch?
While water-jacketed (WJ) incubators have, in the past, been suitable for generalized cell culture, they truly are an outdated technology. WJ incubators are bulky, often taking up valuable lab space, offer less capacity in relation to that space, have lower performance and control, are difficult to maintain and do little to prevent contamination. High-temperature disinfection is also not possible in WJ designs. The direct-heat design provides an innovative solution to these issues and is ideal for culture in today’s laboratory.
Maintenance: Are there any parts which should be regularly renewed on my Galaxy?
Yes. Replace the CO2 supply line HEPA filter and auto-zero HEPA filter* at least once per year. (* Auto-zero filter used in R models only.)
Oxygen Control: I may want to add the O2 control option to my Galaxy incubator at a later date. Can this be retrofitted?
The O2 control feature cannot be field retrofitted and is only factory installed. We suggest ordering it at the time of purchase to provide a single incubator that will meet your requirements for many years to come.
Temperature Control: What is the temperature range for your CO2 Incubators?
The temperature on Eppendorf direct-heat incubators is 4 °C above ambient temperature to 50 ºC.
Is stacking with Innova 44 possible?
Yes, that is possible. Stacking requires a base and the specific stacking kit. For a double stack the S44i must be placed on top of Innova 44 independent of orbit. For a triple stack: If two S44i with different orbits are stacked on one Innova 44, place the one with larger orbit in the middle. If one S44i is refrigerated place that one in the middle. Note that devices only run speed reduced: 2 devices stacked: 20 rpm – 300 rpm. 3 devices stacked: 20 rpm – 250 rpm. Due to speed limitation Balance master Calibration should not be run. Initial counterweight settings can be taken from the manual.
What is the maximum flask size I can use in the S44i?
Erlenmeyer flasks up to 5 L in size can be accommodated. If the static Incubation shelf is installed, flasks up to 1 Liter Erlenmeyer or 2.8 / 3 L Fernbach can be accommodated. General capacity tables are available in the operating manual here
Can I use all Eppendorf shaker accessories as well for the S44i?
Yes, all shaker accessories can be used with the S44i.
Can I use the S44i with sticky pad?
Yes, sticky pad can be used directly on the S44i Universal platform. The universal platform fits 9 sticky pads to be covered.
Can I run a double or triple stacked unit fully loaded and at full speed?
Yes, Balance Master function allows the optimal adjustment of the counterbalance to run all devices in a triple stack at maximum speed (300 or 400 depending on orbit) even with full load.
What is the maximum load on the platform?
The maximum load on the platform is 35.4 kg (78 lb).
What disinfection agents can I use to disinfect the S44i?

Can I upgrade my shaker later on with other options when I buy a basic non-refrigerated unit?
Yes, the options photosynthetic LED lights (on refrigerated units only), the static shelf and the window shade can be upgraded to a unit. Refrigeration cannot be upgraded later on.
What can I do when I have spillages to the chamber bottom?
Depending on the amount of spill open both refrigeration and reservoir drain to release liquid which may have entered the chamber bottom. The bottom of the chamber is protected by a base cover. This can be flushed also carefully from the front with water or disinfection solution. Make sure to flush bottom with drain open and prevent overfilling. The maximum reservoir volume is: 3 Liter. What is the temperature control range?
The non-refrigerated version allows temperature control between 5 °C above ambient up to 80 °C. The refrigerated version allows temperature control between 20 °C below ambient up to 80 °C (with a minimum of 4 °C).
What is the temperature uniformity?
The temperature uniformity is ±0.25 °C at 37 °C and 250 rpm.
Are there any limitations in temperature control with specific options installed?
No, also with photosynthetic LED lights running the maximum temperature is 80 °C.
Is there a possibility to increase the chamber humidity?
No, the device is not designed to create a humid chamber environment nor work with a humid chamber environment. The base cover is only for catching potential spillages, protection of the drive and cleaning purposes.
How long does the Balance Master (BM) calibration take?
Balance Master calibration must be performed on one device at a time with no other device running the speed function. The calibration can take up to 60 minutes per device. It is typically much quicker with a single device and with a double stack. Correct installation and leveling is very important for quick and successful Balance Master calibration. Balance Master has to only be done one time during installation or when shaker is relocated to another position.
How long does the Balance Master optimization take?
The Balance Master optimization does take maximum 10 minutes.
What is the benefit of Balance Master?
The Balance Master function assures that the platform is always in perfect counterbalance. Any imbalances will be immediately detected and with Balance Master Optimization the counterbalance can be easily adjusted to optimum. Balance Master facilitates full flexibility in load and speed, reproducible shaking and minimal wear out of shaker components.
