How do I recognize aerosol-tight rotors?
How do I recognize aerosol-tight rotors?
Firstly, the aerosol-tight rotors can be recognized by their designation abbreviation “FA”, where the letter “A” indicates the aerosol tightness; secondly, we have color-coded the aerosol-tight rotors. All aerosol-tight rotors now have a red rotor lid screw, and a red ring is printed on to the rotor shaft.

What is "Fast Temp" (Centrifuge 5418 R)?
The "Fast Temp" function is a temperature control run of the Centrifuge 5418 R without samples and with a rotor and temperature-specific rotational speed in order to quickly bring the rotor chamber, incl. the rotor, buckets and adapters, to the set nominal temperature. In order that the samples can be centrifuged from the beginning on at the desired temperature, one starts this temperature control run during sample preparation by pressing the "Fast Temp" key. The display shows the current temperature and g force (rcf) or speed (rpm) as well as “FT” as symbol for a “Fast Temp” temperature run. You can find a more detailed description in the operating manual of the Centrifuge 5418/5418 R.

Sometimes my Centrifuge 5430/ 5430 R displays "EP". What does that mean?
Sometimes my Centrifuge 5430/ 5430 R displays "EP". What does that mean?
"EP" is displayed when the automatic standby function is active. It is not an error code. If the centrifuge remains unused for more than 20 min., the standby function is activated, indicated by "EP" on the display. By using the standby key, the centrifuge is re-activated and ready to use. The letters "EP" were chosen because a lot of Eppendorf products already have this prefix in their name.

What tubes do you recommend for centrifugation at 30,000 x g?
What tubes do you recommend for centrifugation at 30,000 x g?
The specifications of the tube manufacturers on the centrifugation resistance must generally be taken into consideration for the centrifugation of tubes of all kinds. This applies in particular for centrifugation at 30,000 x g, as only very few micro test tubes can withstand these extreme gravitational forces to date without breaking. The following tubes can, for example, be centrifuged at 30,000 x g:
• Eppendorf Safe-Lock Tubes 0.5 mL
• Eppendorf Safe-Lock Tubes 1.5 mL
• Eppendorf Tubes 3810X 1.5 mL

What can I use the "Fast Temp pro" function for?
What can I use the "Fast Temp pro" function for?
With the "Fast Temp pro" function it is possible to automatically start the "Fast Temp" temperature control run at a predetermined time. In order that the Centrifuge 5430 R already shows the desired temperature at the start of work, one can set a point in time in the device menu at which the temperature control run should be started. The rotor then begins to spin in the centrifuge at a rotor and temperature-specific rotational speed in order to quickly reach the set nominal temperature. This function can thereby be programmed in such a way that it is carried out once or several times. You can find a more detailed description in the operating instructions of the Centrifuge 5430/5430 R.
