I bought a new Varispenser 2(x) and drops are visible inside the device. Additionally an intense smell was present when opening the cardbox. What is that?
Each Varispenser 2(x) is calibrated before packaging using distilled water. Afterwards each device is rinsed with an ethanol-glycerol solution to dry faster. The drops inside the device and the smell occur from this solution. The device should be completely dry after a few minutes outside the packaging.
What is the maximum viscosity limit for ViscoTips?
ViscoTips have been tested with liquds up to 14.000 mPa*s which equals clear liquid honey.
Why should I pre-wet ViscoTip?
We recommend pre-wetting of ViscoTip to avoid air bubbles. Furthermore, the pipetting results will be more precise and accurate after pre-wetting.
How can ViscoTip aspirate creamy liquids (skin cream, curd)?
Creamy liquids such as skin cream or curd flow very slowly and holes tend to form when a part of the liquid is removed. Therefore we recommend aspiration of creamy liquids in a circular movement to avoid air intake.
Furthermore, the liquid can be centrifuged prior to aspiration.
How can I decontaminate the Move It lower part?
With Xplorer plus, the lower parts are autoclavable. With Research plus the complete pipette is autoclavable.
The adjustment of cone spacing of the electronic model is not motorized. What is the reason?
When working with plates and multi-channel pipettes it is a prerequisite to have a rotatable lower part. Fixed lower parts make the work inconvenient and non-ergomic. For this reason Eppendorf has invented a lower part combining the factors "rotating" with "adjustable cone spacing". The fact, that the lower part is not fixed means that the motor for the cone space adjustment cannot be integrated in the pipette's upper part. Having a rotating lower part requires a motor in the lower part. This extra weight would have made the pipette "foot-heavy" and becoming non-ergonomic. For this reason Eppendorf decided for a manual cone spacing.
The Move It lower parts show indications for plates. I have a plate which does not fit into these formats. Can I nevertheless use the Move It pipettes?
First, please check with the option table, if you have the suitable Move It pipette availabe. Maybe you simply need a different model for your applications.
In case you have an atypical vessel format you can of course also use Move It if not exceeding the distance range. Use a ruler to check which Move It model is suitable for your atypic vessel type. Within this range all distances can be set. Therefore please proceed as follows:
1) Attach tips
2) Set the two format limiters to maximum width range
3) Use the rotating knob to adjust the space between the tips until fitting to the atypic vessel
4) Set one of the format limiter to this position
5) Set the rotating knob to the second vessel type
6) Set the format limiter to this tip distance
You can now work between these set limits by simply using the rotating knob.
Could you please send me an overview over the chemical resistance of the Move It lower parts?
The Move It lower parts are exclusively made of the high-tech materials we have already build in the
Research plus and Xplorer pipettes. Thus the chemical resistance table for the Research plus applies also for both, the Xplorer Move It lower parts and the Research plus Move It lower parts (but not for the upper part of Xplorer due to the electronics). The list is available on the eppendorf website (Research plus / Operating Manual)
How do the Move It Pipettes become serviced?
First of all, the Move It is a normal pipette which, accordingly to ISO 8655, needs to be calibrated at least once a year. You can send the pipettes to your service provider, to the eppendorf service or do the calibration yourself. Maintenance should be performed by service providers only.
Which vessel formats is Move It suitable for?
Based on the Move It model you can apply it with vessel types having a distance between 4.5 - 33 mm. Some examples: Plates (384- / 96-/ 48-/ 24-/ 12-well formats), 0.2 / 0.5 / 1.5 / 2.0 / 5 mL tubes, different vials, ect. Check the navigator table to find the model being suitable for your specific vessel-to-vessel distance. The adjustment of the distance between the cones is stepless giving you maximum flexibility to adjust to non-standard vessel formats.
Must the lid on epT.I.P.S. Boxes / epT.I.P.S. Boxes 2.0 be opened for autoclaving?
No, the boxes can be autoclaved with the lid closed.
Can the epT.I.P.S. Box / epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0 be autoclaved at 133 °C?
No, the epT.I.P.S. Box / epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0 cannot be autoclaved at 133 °C. We recommend 121 °C.
Are the epT.I.P.S. Box / epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0 and the epT.I.P.S. Racks UV-resistant?
The UV stability of epT.I.P.S. box / epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0 (made of polycarbonate) as well as of the epT.I.P.S. racks (made of polypropylene) were tested intensively during development. Boxes and racks were exposed to 254 nm UV light (1 J/cm2) for 16.7 hours. After 10 cycles (167 hours), no signs of adverse effects were detectable. Because the energy of the lamp used is considerably higher than that of a lamp used in a sterile bench, it can be assumed that both boxes can be exposed to UV radiation for at least 300 to 600 hours in a sterile bench without problems. Polypropylene used for epTIPS Racks is three times more resistant against UV radiation than polycarbonate allowing even longer exposure to UV light. If a disinfectant is applied prior to UV irradiation make sure to take off the reagent by wiping off using a cloth soaked in water.
How can the epT.I.P.S. LoRetention be distinguished from other epT.I.P.S.?
This is easily possible:
1) Racks: The lids of the LoRetention racks and reloads is transparent. Standard tips have a blue lid. Additionally, a reusable LoRetention adhesive sticker is placed on the lid. This sticker also features a “LoRetention” writing on the reverse side being readable through the open lid.
