Eppendorf unveiled two new state-of-the-art centrifuges: Centrifuge 5425 & Centrifuge 5910 R with an exclusive event at County Hall, London on Tuesday 15th May 2018.

The launch was attended by over 70 representatives from all areas of science and industry and included presentations from both consultants and healthcare professionals in the laboratory field followed by a centrifuge workshop, with particular focus on sample safety and the safe use and maintenance of centrifuges and included demonstrations on how to identify hazardous centrifuges and rotors.

During the event, attendees enjoyed the opportunity to network during refreshments, concluding with a complimentary champagne reception and rotation on the London Eye.

Nicole Seeligmueller, Eppendorf AG, presented what necessary precautions to take when working with aerosols in the laboratory. Thereafter, Simon Parks, Public Health England, outlined the independent testing and validation services, which their Biosafety Investigation Unit provides in the use of aerobiological techniques, evaluating a range of medical devices and laboratory equipment.

Eppendorf now offers its centrifuges in two versions; an IVD compliant CE marked version according to IVD directive 98/79/EC and a ‘General Lab Product’ version for research. Therefore, Tony Cambridge, Lead Biomedical Scientist at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, followed with a presentation on In Vitro Diagnostic Directives (IVD’s). He outlined important considerations including; how they are currently controlled, essential requirements for medical devices, how they specifically address safety, quality and performance of in vitro diagnostic medical devices.

Photographs from the event are available to view here.
