Certifications

In our awareness of our responsibility for people and the environment, we strive for active, comprehensive and innovative environmental protection.
In respect to sustainability, independent fact checks provide proof and reliable documentation for business partners and customers.

Certifications represent an external check and verification of existing situations, workflows, processes, products, or similar aspects in an organization.
When improving these aspects within an organization based on internal checks, there is a lot of development and progress possible. Still, the organization is limited to internal skills, knowledge, and learnings.
External consultants are another step to further improve these internal developments by supporting with an external view and external experience.

An external verification by an independent certification body is the final step to confirm an aspect by someone else who is not linked to the topic internally.
ISO 9001 is a well known example of an external  company audit where external persons check if e.g.  processes within this company follow the rules.

In our awareness of our responsibility for people and the environment, we strive for active, comprehensive and innovative environmental protection.
In respect to sustainability, independent fact checks provide proof and reliable documentation for business partners and customers.

ISO 9001

The Eppendorf quality management system fulfills international standard, proved by the certification based on  DIN EN ISO 9001. Eppendorf’s goal is not just to optimize its quality management system continuously, but also to improve our performance over the long run.

ISO 14001

The Eppendorf environmental management system fulfills international standard, proved by the DIN EN ISO 14001 certification. Eppendorf’s goal is not just to optimize its environmental management system continuously, but also to improve its environmental performance over the long run.

Independent freezer check

Technical parameters of new ULT freezers need to be validated. On-going checks during the development phase are performed inhouse, by standard. For the final test, we at Eppendorf believe in an independent, external counter control.

To fulfill this request, we co-operate with an external European testing body with highly trained engineers. Three units of ULT freezers (serial production level) are sent over. The testing of these units is performed with defined and standardized conditions, following a dedicated standard operating procedure (SOP), e.g. specific room temperature, controlled humidity, validated & certificated testing instruments, and exact positioning of temperature probes. All conditions and results are documented.

The resulting external test data for power consumption and temperature performance of our new freezer are used for Eppendorf-published technical data about the freezer.

ACT® certification by My Green Lab®

Since 2017, Eppendorf partners with My Green Lab, an independent International non-profit NGO to validate the environmental impact factor of Eppendorf products. This label is supported by the I2SL, the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories.

The CryoCube® F740hi was the first ULT freezer worldwide receiving the ACT-label in 2018.
After the first pilot study, we asked My Green Lab for further freezer validations like the CryoCube F570 series or similar models. Consumables like the 25 mL tube family and the Research plus pipette were ACT-certified in 2021 as the first 25 mL vessel resp. the first manual pipette worldwide based on their sustainability footprint. In 2022, the first biobased tubes were ACT-certified. Other product groups are in progress to follow.
Based on the growing global interest of lab equipment users in independent product checks about sustainability aspects, the impact of independent labels like ACT from My Green Lab is strengthened.
Eppendorf is proud to support this organization. We believe in independent organizations, challenging us to continuously improve our products for a more sustainable future.

ENERGY STAR®

ENERGY STAR, well known from consumer goods validations, is a testing agency of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA).
Besides consumer products like screens, washing machines, or computers, which are tested for their energy behavior, ENERGY STAR also addresses so-called B-2-B (business-to-business) products. Lab equipment belongs to this B-2-B segment.

In 2017, Eppendorf decided to send the first ULT freezers to ENERGY STAR for further independent testing and validation. After the successful testing, the CryoCube F740hi/ hiw and the CryoCube F570h are ENERGY STAR certified. Further ULT freezers are to follow.

Independent rotor safety check for centrifuges

As there are more and more regulations regarding labor protection as well as pollution control, the usage of aerosol-tight equipment becomes more and more common. When using hazardous samples, centrifuge rotors shall be aerosol-tight.

The aerosol-tightness of the rotor should be certified by an external institution. Eppendorf follows this “two-eye-check-system” by sending aerosol-tight rotors to Public Health England, Porton Down, UK for an external check and type rating. To reduce the risk of mix-ups in the labs (non-aerosol-tight versus aerosol-tight), Eppendorf introduced a color code for aerosol-tight rotors: the red knob of the rotor lid symbolizes aerosol-tightness - easy to recognize.
