For which applications can I use Eppendorf Conical Tubes SnapTec ® 50?

In general, all applications where standard conical tubes 50 mL are routinely used. The Eppendorf Conical Tubes SnapTec ® 50 offer same safety parameters like centrifugation stability and lid tightness. At the same time, they offer unique feature in this format – the snap cap (SnapTec ® ), which markedly improves one-handed operation and minimizes contamination and mixing up the lids (typical problem when using screw cap conical tubes). This makes the Eppendorf Conical Tubes SnapTec ® 50 ideal for all cell/tissue culture applications including splitting cells, media change, transfections, etc. Also assay preparation and biomolecule purification protocols (gDNA, plasmid DNA, RNA, proteins), which require organic solvent extractions and multiple centrifugation steps may be successfully performed. They are also perfect for general reagent / sample handling and storage.

Is it necessary to buy new equipment to enable the use of Eppendorf Conical Tubes SnapTec ® 50 within existing lab periphery?

No. The shape, diameter and tube length of the Eppendorf Conical Tubes SnapTec ® 50 is virtually the same as of standard 50 mL conical tubes. They should be compatible without further adapter with a wide range of standard laboratory equipment like centrifuges, mixers, racks, boxes etc.

Is it possible to store samples in Eppendorf Conical Tubes SnapTec ® 50 in the freezer?

Yes, the tubes can be used for sample storage down to -86 °C.

How resistant are the Eppendorf Conical Tubes SnapTec ® 50 to chemicals?

The tubes are made of high quality, transparent polypropylene and resistant to majority of commonly used chemical substances in the laboratory. An overview is provided in Application Note No. 056 "The best material for original Eppendorf Tubes ® and Plates: Properties and chemical resistance of polypropylene ". How do I open and close Eppendorf Conical Tubes SnapTec ® 50 correctly?

The snap cap of the Eppendorf Conical Tubes SnapTec ® 50 has a larger diameter than snap-cap tube formats in smaller volumes. Opening and closing with one hand may feel different at first and requires correct handling. The following tips should help you to use this new type of closure correctly and safely: To open press the safety tab from below and steady press upwards. In case of pressure buildup (organic solvents, higher temp incubations) make sure you slightly hold the lid with your thumb and do not let the lid to pop out rapidly. To close, press down the cap in the front area and make sure the safety tab clicks and is locked at right angle to the tube. Improperly locked tab may cause leaking.

In which temperature range can Eppendorf tubes be used?

Are Eppendorf tubes, plates (also LoBind variants), and pipette tips resistant to 100% acetonitrile?

Eppendorf tubes, plates including LoBind, and pipette tips are resistant to 100% acetonitrile only in room temperature conditions. Above 40°C and prolonged exposure (days) may lead to partial damage and is not recommended. For lower acetonitrile concentrations the resistance parameters will be better so prolonged exposure and higher temperatures may be possible. This must be however tested by the customer.
