What does the term 2DMix-Control technology describe/stand for?

2DMix-Control technology stands for an orbital circular paths with a diameter of 3 mm and up to 3,000 rpm. 2DMix-Control technology generates excellent mixing performance, even for challenging samples. Detaild information can be found in the brochure "Ther value of Mixing".

How to perform the cleaning and disinfection of MixMate, ThermoMixer F, ThermoMixer C, ThermoStat C, SmartBlocks, SmartExtender and ThermoTop?

Switch off the device, disconnect the mains/power plug and make sure that no liquid can get into the inside of the housing. When cleaning has been completed, the device should only be connected when it is fully dry on the inside and on the outside. Use lint-free cloth and soft bottle brush or cotton swabs for SmartBlocks and SmartExtender. Do not use any aggressive chemicals on the device or its accessories such as strong and weak bases, strong acids, acetone, formaldehyde, halogenated hydrocarbons or phenol. If the device is contaminated with aggressive chemicals, clean it immediately using a mild cleaning agent and wipe it off with dist. water afterwards. Recommended cleaning agents: mild, soap-based lab cleaner dist. water Recommended disinfectants: ethanol (70%) isopropanol (70%) Please follow the detailed safety instructions in the Operating Manual..

Is the housing of ThermoMixer C, ThermoMixer F and ThermoStat C stable against UV irradiation?

A disinfection by UV irradiation cannot be recommended, because discoloration of the housing materials can occur.

Which DNA and RNAse deconatmination agents can be recommended for decontamination of the devices and the SmartBlocks?

We tested DNA away and RNase away and we can recommend to use both agents.

Are start and end position of the SmartBlocks the same?

No. Start and end position are not identical.

How can the temperature accuracy be verified?

The best possible temperature accuracy can be guaranteed by individually adjusting a SmartBlock. Optimized temperature control for each block type keeps temperature overshoots and deviations caused by external interferences to a minimum. To guarantee optimal performance over the entire period of use, Eppendorf offers a preventive maintenance program and certification services: your Eppendorf ThermoMixers, ThermoStat C as well as the SmartBlocks are regularly cleaned, checked and adjusted. Eppendorf provides for that purpose the Temperature Verification System – Single Well for Eppendorf Mastercyclers (0056 000.003) in combination with the 384 well Sensor (0056 002.006).

Can cell culture plates be used in the SmartBlock plates?

Cell culture plates comply with the SBS standard can be used in the SmartBlock plates. Temper polystyrene plates up to 70°C max. Further information can be found in the operating manual.

Is it possible to run more than one program in automatic succession on a ThermoMixer or ThermoStat C?

No. Each program has to be chosen and run separately. But the 4 possible steps within a program run in automatic succession.

Which SmartBlocks and vessels can be used with ThermoMixer F models?

The ThermoMixer F models possess a fix installed SmartBlock. ThermoMixer F0.5: installed SmartBlock 0.5 mL for 24 0.5 mL mirco test tubes ThermoMixer F1.5: installed Smartblock 1.5 mL for 24 1.5 mL micro test tubes ThermoMixer F2.0: installed SmartBlock 2.0 mL for 24 2.0 mL mirco test tubes ThermoMixer FP: installed SmartBlock plates for all common plates formats Detailed informations can be found in the operating manual.

Can PCR plates be used in SmartBlock plates respectively ThermoMixer FP?

SmartBlock plates and ThermoMixer FP (with the fixed SmartBlock plates) are dedicated for using MTP’s, DWP’s and also other skirted plates which meet the SBS standard. For optimal usage of PCR plates the SmartBlock PCR 96 and PCR 384 in combination with ThermoMixer C or ThermoStat C is the proper choice. These SmartBlocks possess conical bores which surround the conical wells of PCR plates properly for a perfect temperature transition.

What is the time setting increments for the ThermoMixer C and ThermoStat C?

Step times of 5 s to 99:30 h or unlimited. Step time range: Stepsize [or increment] 5 s - 1 min: 5 s 1 min - 20 min: 15 s 20 min - 1:00 h: 1 min 1:00 h - 10:00 h: 5 min 10:00 h - 99:30 h: 30 min Further information can be found in the operating manual.

Why should I have my ThermoMixer serviced at regular intervals?

Eppendorf offers a selection of preventive maintenance services which ensure a consistent performance of the device and confidence in the results.

How often does my ThermoMixer need to be serviced?

This depends on how intensively it is used and varies depending on the load on the device. However, we recommend to have it serviced at least once a year.

What do you need to look out for before carrying out a service?

The device needs to be decontaminated first. The device must be freely accessible and all samples removed from the device. You should also ensure that the device has cooled down already.

What types of service programs are available for the ThermoMixer?

What are the costs for the different ThermoMixer service programs?

The cost depends on the model and on the service that is performed. Please contact your local Eppendorf Service.

What is IQ or OQ and what do I need them for?

Installation and operational qualification; the IQ documents that the device has been delivered and installed correctly. The OQ checks the correct functioning of a device. IQ/OQ ensure that your quality management requirements are met and that your device operates properly and in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications.

How often does the OQ need to be carried out for a ThermoMixer?

The company is responsible for technical checks of devices. Eppendorf recommends regular device qualifications depending on the intensity of use, however, they should be carried out at least once a year.

What does the temperature verification include and how often does it need to be carried out?

To ensure that your ThermoMixer delivers reproducible and correct results, temperature verification and adjustment - if required - are strongly recommended. Temperature verification is a very accurate and precise method and complies with all laboratory requirements with regard to documentation and detection in accordance with national and international standards.

How can temperature accuracy be verified?

The best temperature accuracy possible is ensured by the individual adjustment of each SmartBlock. The Eppendorf Temperature Verification System- Single Channel is used to check the temperature accuracy of the thermoblock. In combination with the temperature sensor for the Eppendorf ThermoMixer, the exact temperature in the thermoblock can be measured. You can find further information in the corresponding operating manual.

Yes, this is possible. The customer has just to set the time to endless. But ice may form on the thermoblock if samples are tempered at low termperatures for a long time.

Disposal of packaging

The packaging of the mixer contains different materials, this includes cardboard, a plastic dust cover, and some foam parts. Recycling of materials becomes more and more important every day: Are you aware that nearly all cardboard material is recycled in Europe? Our mixer packaging cardboard material consists of ca. 60 % recycling material. Please support the global sustainability initiative of recycling valuable raw material by also collecting the thermomixer cardboard packaging material and disposing of it in the appropriate collection container at your organization. In respect to the plastic dust cover made of LD-PE and the foam parts, we recommend selecting a dedicated recycling partner where PE material can be recycled. We suggest you contact your local waste hauler or facility management team to understand the available recycling options for your organization.

Disposal of instrument
Our mixers last for many years, but if they need to be replaced, we kindly ask you to fulfill local requirements for disposal of these instruments. We strongly recommend a certified local recycling partner with experience in instruments with electronics. Keeping it "local" reduces the impact of transportation, and the "certified" aspect is recommended due to the safe and sustainable removal of specific parts.

Decontamination
This piece of equipment was used in a laboratory and/or was used to handle biological samples. Please keep in mind to adequately decontaminate the equipment which needs to be disposed. Check local requirements. For more information, get in contact with your local biosafety officer and/or waste officer. Check if your local recycling partner has special instructions and/or documentation requirements. You may also use the Eppendorf decontamination form sheet as guidance.
