Is your sample really mixed? – 2DMix-Control with 3 mm orbit up to 3,000 rpm
When mixing samples, we often just assume homogenization without verification, as checking is typically difficult. However, Eppendorf's decades of thermomixer development and customer feedback show that mixing performance can vary significantly with different parameters. The 2DMix-Control technology provides controlled, circular mixing with a 3 mm diameter and speeds up to 3,000 rpm. This is particularly beneficial for small tube or plate formats and challenging samples, where a large orbit and high RPM may be necessary (see link below).

Fast temperature transfer for plates needed? – Form-fitting SmartBlocks
Have you measured your sample's temperature profile over time? You might be surprised by how much it can deviate from the setpoint and how long it can take to reach the target temperature – despite fast heating or cooling rates which always refer to the block and not the sample temperature.
The temperature profile of a sample is influenced by the heat transfer efficiency. For this reason, tube-specific thermoblocks contact all sides of the tube except the lid to enhance transfer efficiency. For plates, two thermoblock types exist: flat-bottom and form-fitting blocks akin to PCR cyclers.
Form-fitting blocks, like SmartBlocks for deep-well (96 well, 500 or 1000 µl) and PCR plates (96/384 well), enable rapid temperature transfer, ensuring the target temperature is reached quickly, even in short protocols (see exemplary comparison of thermal images after 5 min of incubation on the right).
Tip: If you are planning mixing tasks using DWP or PCR plates, measure the temperature profile, compare it with your target profile and consider form-fitting blocks.
Tool-, screw- and adjustment-free block exchange within seconds – Quick Release
You don't want to waste time struggling with tight and tiny screws, unplugging fragile cables, hunting for lost tools, or manually changing block settings? While many thermomixers claim "easy block exchange", the full process is usually never shown in videos – for good reasons.
Eppendorf's Quick Release function simplifies this: just press the lever to swap insulated SmartBlocks and the device automatically recognizes the new format. You're ready for new mixing tasks in seconds.
Tip: If you are planning to exchange thermoblocks regularly in your next mixer, check the operating manual or try the block exchange yourself for your next thermomixer. You would be surprised how easy or difficult it can be – depending on your choice.

Consistent sample concentrations over time and comparability between samples in different block locations – ThermoTop heated lid
Condensation can form inside vessels depending on temperature, time, and RPM, leading to fluctuations in sample concentration. It also means the concentration may not even be stable over time as condensate droplets form and drip back into the sample. Complexity is added when comparing vessels or wells located centrally in the thermoblock with those at the periphery. Thus, condensation increases variance in experimental outcomes, necessitating more experiments to achieve statistical significance.
The optional ThermoTop heated lid offers block-type specific heating for SmartBlocks up to 2.0 mL, providing effective condensation protection without a need for manual adjustments and sample overheating. It ensures consistent sample concentrations over time and further improves comparability between samples in different block locations.
Tip: Consider a thermomixer with a heated lid with automatic block recognition and automatic temperature adjustment for low volume tubes or different plate formats. Manual height or temperature adjustment is not only time-consuming but may also lead to undetected overheating of samples.

Parallel incubation at a different temperature – SmartExtender
You want even more flexibility? How about a second incubation temperature or 50 % more capacity for incubating your 1.5 mL tubes?
The optional SmartExtender accommodates up to 12 x 1.5 mL tubes and is compatible with all Eppendorf SmartBlocks – for example for simultaneous enzymatic reactions at 37 °C or 95 °C. The independent heating function allows concurrent use with an Eppendorf SmartBlock, while preserving its heating, cooling, and mixing capabilities.
Easy tube transfer and synchronized start of reactions – Transfer Rack
Need a 60-second incubation for 24 samples tubes simultaneously? The Eppendorf Transfer Rack facilitates safe and easy transfer of up to 24 tubes in parallel to or from the Eppendorf SmartBlock, ensuring consistent reaction conditions for all samples. Compatible with SmartBlock sizes of 0.5 mL, 1.5 mL, and 2.0 mL, the Transfer Rack is included as standard. It holds up to 24 microtubes, allowing convenient transfer of hot vessels without risk of burns.
Tip: Use the Transfer Rack lid for quick inversion of all tubes or to ensure equal fit in the SmartBlock with a quick press.
More support for your PCR-workflow
In addition to form-fitting SmartBlocks for 96- and 384-well PCR plates and the ThermoTop® for efficient temperature transfer (see above), we offer additional accessories for your mixing tasks.
• Stackable PCR-Rack
• PCR-Cooler in pink or blue: Keeps a 96-well PCR plate cold for more than an hour at 0 °C (2 h precooling at -20 °C) and changes color when temperature exceeds 7 °C (see color change from bottom to top in the image on the right)
Want to speed up your tasks?
You don't want to spend your time navigating through programs or doing extensive thermomixer trainings for your new lab members?
Simply start one of the five pre-programmed protocols by the quick start keys or just define your own program (15 storable, freely definable, multi-parameter). The intuitive user interface supports you with five operational languages.
Supports your sustainability targets
Eppendorf is committed to accountability, consistency and transparency – the three principles of the ACT® label – to reduce its environmental impact and provide its customers with high-quality, sustainable products.
In addition to many other products Eppendorf offers, the sustainability score has been validated by the NGO My Green Lab® and the Eppendorf ThermoMixer® C has been certified with an ACT label.

Annoyed by uncomfortable handling?
Ergonomics goes far beyond the »ergonomically designed chair«. Eppendorf already started to optimize laboratory devices with regard to ergonomics in the early 1970s.
In 2003, we started the PhysioCare Concept®, focusing on ergonomic liquid handling devices like our pipettes.
Nowadays, the Eppendorf PhysioCare Concept has been broadened to include further laboratory products as a holistic solution to harmonize the workflow in your laboratory with your health and well-being, e.g. for the Eppendorf ThermoMixer:
• Eppendorf QuickRelease for easy and fast block exchange
• Insulated SmartBlock for safe gripping / no burning of fingers
• Direct keys for convenient handling
• Small footprint to enable position in direct arm reach at your bench
• Standardized »user-interface concept« for intuitive handling of devices

Disposal of packaging
The packaging of the mixer contains different materials, this includes cardboard, a plastic dust cover, and some foam parts. Recycling of materials becomes more and more important every day: Are you aware that nearly all cardboard material is recycled in Europe? Our mixer packaging cardboard material consists of ca. 60 % recycling material. Please support the global sustainability initiative of recycling valuable raw material by also collecting the thermomixer cardboard packaging material and disposing of it in the appropriate collection container at your organization. In respect to the plastic dust cover made of LD-PE and the foam parts, we recommend selecting a dedicated recycling partner where PE material can be recycled. We suggest you contact your local waste hauler or facility management team to understand the available recycling options for your organization.
Disposal of instrument
Our mixers last for many years, but if they need to be replaced, we kindly ask you to fulfill local requirements for disposal of these instruments. We strongly recommend a certified local recycling partner with experience in instruments with electronics. Keeping it "local" reduces the impact of transportation, and the "certified" aspect is recommended due to the safe and sustainable removal of specific parts.
Decontamination
This piece of equipment was used in a laboratory and/or was used to handle biological samples. Please keep in mind to adequately decontaminate the equipment which needs to be disposed. Check local requirements. For more information, get in contact with your local biosafety officer and/or waste officer. Check if your local recycling partner has special instructions and/or documentation requirements. You may also use the Eppendorf decontamination form sheet as guidance.
