The Eppendorf Award for Young European Investigators
The Eppendorf Award for Young European Investigators acknowledges outstanding contributions to biomedical research in Europe based on methods of molecular biology, including novel analytical concepts. The Award is presented in partnership with the scientific journal Nature.
Since 1995 the Eppendorf Young Investigator Award is granted annually to European researchers not older than 35 years. It acknowledges outstanding contributions to biomedical research in Europe based on methods of molecular biology, including novel analytical concepts. The winner is selected by an independent expert committee chaired by Reinhard Jahn (Director Emeritus at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Goettingen, Germany).
This prize, which reflects the past and future of Eppendorf in a manner befitting the wishes of the company's founders, Dr. Heinrich Netheler and Dr. Hans Hinz, is intended to symbolize the close links between the company and the field of biomedicine.
The Eppendorf & Science Prize for Neurobiology
The international Eppendorf & Science Prize for Neurobiology is awarded annually to one young scientist for the most outstanding neurobiological research based on methods of molecular and cell biology conducted by him/her during the past three years.
The Eppendorf & Science Prize for Neurobiology acknowledges the increasing importance of this research in advancing our understanding of how the brain and nervous system function – a quest that seems destined for dramatic expansion in the coming decades.
Eppendorf and Science/AAAS established this international prize in 2002. The Prize is intended to encourage and support the work of promising young neurobiologists who are not older than 35 years. It is awarded annually to one young scientist for the most outstanding neurobiological research based on methods of molecular and cell biology conducted by him/her during the past three years, as described in a 1,000-word entrance essay.
A Good Plan for Clean Water
The UN goals “Good health and well-Being”, “Gender equality” and “Clean water and sanitation” are part of the global sustainability goals formulated in 2015. In Ghana, Plan International has been working since 2018 to reach these goals through concrete measures – for instance, by building and renovating access to water and constructing sanitary facilities in schools. The project agenda also includes education on sanitation and hygiene.
Eppendorf has been supporting these important activities since 2021 through its “Eppendorf Life Improving Program”. A total of 75,000 euros have been donated to the project “Clean Water for Ghana”. “With Plan International as a partner for the ‘Eppendorf Improving Life Program’, we are able to provide specific support for children – in line with the mission of the founders of Eppendorf: to improve human living conditions”, says Cordula Richter, Corporate Citizenship & Governmental.
Affairs at Eppendorf. What makes this project special: it was chosen by the 4,500 employees at Eppendorf, and it is therefore a commitment that is supported by the entire company. And it is bearing fruit: there is now access to water in 40 locations within the 36 project communities.

Science for everyone
The LONG NIGHT OF INDUSTRY connects industry as an innovative and economic force with the people of the region in Hamburg. Eppendorf opens its doors to interested guests on this evening. Companies of all sizes and from many industries will host the evening and welcome schoolchildren, students, jobseekers, people looking for a training place, professionals and interested "neighbors". There is a wide variety of manufacturing processes, products and professions to discover.
During the Long Night of Industry, Eppendorf introduces itself, offers insights into production at the Hamburg site and presents selected products. Last but not least, the guests can also inform themselves about the many possibilities that Eppendorf has to offer as an employer.
Wi mook dat
Hamburg is our home town. The initiative "Wi mook dat" brings together local companies and local social and/ or environmental projects. The aim of the annual action day is to mobilize and sensitize as many Hamburg companies as possible for social and environmental commitment. With their efforts, the companies support charitable institutions by combining economy with environment. The companies receive appreciation, energetic support, inspiration, team spirits, and new impulses for their daily work.
Eppendorf supports the recultivation of the river Alster. The Alster is a small river which finally ends up in the two big famous lakes in Hamburg downtown. To improve the condition of nature within the city, we – together with other Hamburg-based companies – take action. How to help the environment in your community?
The concept of „Lebendige Alster“ is to enrich the river with natural conditions for animals and plants and to support the biodiversity in this habitat. Why is this important? Over decades, mankind removed all stones from the rivers, canalized the rivers, removed all trees and bushes to get easy-to-maintain rivers. As a drawback, nature vanished as well and rivers became dead channels of water. Even common species are threatened and the biodiversity was (and still is) drastically reduced. For some years now, volunteers spend their free time to recultivate these rivers, bringing back life to the cities and improving the water ecosystem. „Lebendige Alster“ enforce these volunteers by joining companies and their employees to help. Step by step, rivers like the Alster get back their original look-a-like, supervised and monitored by the German Nature preserve committee.
