The aerosol-tight centrifugation can only be carried out with the rotor lid. Especially when working with pathogenic microorganisms, we recommend the usage of the aerosol-tight lid. When centrifuging filter devices like spin columns or other comparable tubes, the aerosol-tight rotor lid must be used in any case. This protects the centrifuge from damage – e. g. by torn-off tube lids.

What is the FastTemp function of refrigerated Eppendorf Micro- and Multipurpose centrifuges?

The FastTemp function is a specific temperature control run which was developed to reach the set temperature as quickly as possible. This temperature control run can already be started during sample preparation by pressing the FastTemp button. This enables a centrifugation at the desired temperature directly after sample preparation without time loss. Yes. Each Eppendorf Microcentrifuge has the possibility to use rpm or g-force (rcf) to set the speed. It is equipped with a special button to easily change between rpm and rcf. Yes. The SOFT function of Eppendorf Microcentrifuges 5425R, 5427R, 5430/R was implemented to realise smooth acceleration and braking. It can be used for the centrifugation of gradients or soft pellets. With Microcentrifuges 5420 and 5425 one could choose between accelerating ramps 1 - 9 and braking ramps 0 - 9. The smaller the ramp the smoother the acceleration / braking.

What is the advantage of the automatic lid release of Eppendorf Microcentrifuges?

The automatic lid release is a feature of Eppendorf's air cooled Microcentrifuges. It can be switched On and Off via the centrifuges operating menu. If it is activated, the centrifuge lid opens automatically once the centrifugation run is finished. This allows quicker access to the samples and avoids possible heat build-up. In addition, the open lid is a clear signal - even from a distance - that the centrifugation run has ended. The 5430 family with the Centrifuge 5430 and 5430 R combines the best features of a microcentrifuge (small footprint) and multipurpose centrifuge (versatility) in one instrument. The high-speed centrifuges offer centrifuge rotors for Eppendorf tubes and PCR strips, but also rotors for microplates and 15 or 50 mL conical tubes.

Advanced operating system of Centrifuge 5430 and 5430 R

The Centrifuge 5430 and 5430 R comes with an advanced operating system, making them more energy efficient due to the smart ECO shut-off and FastTemp pre-cooling functions. They each have a menu-driven, multilingual operation menu with a large backlit display that allows you to save up to 50 user-defined programs and five program keys for easy access to routine programs.
In addition to the standard FastTemp pre-cooling program, Eppendorf high-speed centrifuge Centrifuge 5430 R features the unique software option called FastTemp pro^®. The FastTemp pro function is available for fast automated pre-cooling based on pre-programmable times and dates. FastTemp pro can be set to a specific date or as a repetitive event on specified days of the week. Simply turn the centrifuge into standby mode when you leave your lab and let FastTemp pro take care of pre-cooling in the morning. This not only makes operation easy; it also saves you up to 90 % of energy overnight.
The ECO shut-off function saves you up to 88 % energy overnight by deactivating the compressor after 8 hours of inactivity to extend compressor life. This function can be deactivated in the menu settings.

Disposal of packaging
The packaging of the Eppendorf Centrifuge 5430 contains different materials, this can include a wooden pallet, cardboard, a plastic dust cover, and some foam parts. Recycling of materials becomes more and more important every day: Are you aware that nearly all cardboard material is recycled in Europe? Our centrifuge packaging cardboard material consists of ca. 50% recycling material. Please support the global sustainability initiative of recycling valuable raw material by also collecting the freezer cardboard packaging material and disposing of it in the appropriate collection container at your organization. In respect to the plastic dust cover made of LD-PE and the foam parts, we recommend to select a dedicated recycling partner where PE material can be recycled. We suggest you contact your local waste hauler or facility management team to understand the available recycling options for your organization.

Disposal of instrument
Our Centrifuge 5430 and 5430 R last for many years, but if they need to be replaced, we kindly ask you to fulfill local requirements for disposal of these instruments. We strongly recommend a certified local recycling partner with experience in instruments with active cooling. Keeping it “local“ reduces the impact of transportation, and the "certified" aspect is recommended due to the safe and sustainable removal and recycling of the cooling liquids if it is a refrigerated centrifuge.

Decontamination
This piece of equipment was used in a laboratory and/ or was used to handle biological samples. Please keep in mind to adequately decontaminate the equipment which needs to be disposed. Check local requirements. For more information, get in contact with your local biosafety officer and/ or waste officer. Check if your local recycling partner has special instructions and/ or documentation requirements. You may also use the Eppendorf decontamination form sheet as guidance.
