Can the epT.I.P.S. Box / epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0 be autoclaved at 133 °C?

No, the epT.I.P.S. Box / epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0 cannot be autoclaved at 133 °C. We recommend 121 °C.

Are the epT.I.P.S. Box / epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0 and the epT.I.P.S. Racks UV-resistant?

The UV stability of epT.I.P.S. box / epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0 (made of polycarbonate) as well as of the epT.I.P.S. racks (made of polypropylene) were tested intensively during development. Boxes and racks were exposed to 254 nm UV light (1 J/cm2) for 16.7 hours. After 10 cycles (167 hours), no signs of adverse effects were detectable. Because the energy of the lamp used is considerably higher than that of a lamp used in a sterile bench, it can be assumed that both boxes can be exposed to UV radiation for at least 300 to 600 hours in a sterile bench without problems. Polypropylene used for epTIPS Racks is three times more resistant against UV radiation than polycarbonate allowing even longer exposure to UV light. If a disinfectant is applied prior to UV irradiation make sure to take off the reagent by wiping off using a cloth soaked in water.

Is the epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0 compatible with the Reloads for the forerunner epT.I.P.S. Box?

Yes, the epT.I.P.S. ® Box 2.0 is compatible with all epT.I.P.S. Reloads and all epT.I.P.S. BioBased Reloads.

What is the difference between epT.I.P.S. Box / epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0 and epT.I.P.S. Rack?

The epT.I.P.S. ® Box 2.0 in the new design, equipped with additional benefits, is the successor product of the epT.I.P.S. ® Box used in the market since 2002. Like its predecessor, the epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0 can be autoclaved up to 100 times and can be filled with all epT.I.P.S. Reload variants for pipette tips in Eppendorf Quality, PCR clean, Biopur ® and PCR clean/Sterile. Please note: the reload variants for tips in Biopur ® and PCR clean/Sterile can only be used in the epT.I.P.S. ® Box 2.0. They do not fit into the predecessor epT.I.P.S. Box. The epT.I.P.S. ® Racks are disposable and destined only for single use and are available in the purity grades Biopur ® and PCR clean/Sterile. How often can the epT.I.P.S. Box / epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0 be autoclaved?

Both boxes can be autoclaved up to 100 times. Stacking of many boxes should be avoided during this process. Please note that if Reloads are inserted, the tray and tips can only be autoclaved once and that filtered tips cannot be autoclaved.

Do ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. and/or ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. SealMax prevent vapour from hazardous liquids to enter the pipette cone? (e.g. fuming acids)

No. The principle of the Dualfilter (in ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. and ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. SealMax) is to protect from aerosols, meaning small liquid droplets in the air. Vapour/fume from liquid samples is gaseous and thus not retained by any filter. To protect the lower part of a pipette, it is best to use a lower part made of PTFE (higher chemical resistance, to withstand highly aggressive chemicals (e.g. TFA)). Please note that Eppendorf offers a PTFE lower part for some single-channel Research plus and Reference 2 (Please refer to FAQ 586 for availability). Important to bear in mind when using it: A lower pipette part made of PTFE is not autoclavable as PTFE is not dimensionally stable under heat. Pipette calibration is recommended after replacing the lower part.

Are Eppendorf products free of RNA?

All products certified with "PCR clean" are tested free of human DNA, DNase, RNase and PCR inhibitors. The following applies from our point of view: Where no human DNA is detected, there can also be no RNA, which is considerably more unstable.

What is the meaning of the PCR Clean seal?

For molecular-biological requirements Eppendorf offers a new standard for uniform purity specifications. All consumables marked with the "Certified PCR Clean” label are guaranteed free of human DNA, DNase, RNase and PCR inhibitors.

Why are there double labels on the folding boxes, as "PCR clean" + "Sterile" or "PCR clean" + "Protein-free"?

Due to the modularization of purity grades, some products are labeled with more than one purity grade symbol. For example, the epDualfilter T.I.P.S. has the double seal "PCR clean "+ "Sterile" and the UVette the double seal "PCR clean" + "Protein-free" on the packing. The certification remains unaffected by the modularization.

Are batch-specific certificates for the new purity grades available in the internet?

Yes, the batch-specific purity grades can be downloaded at our certificates homepage .

Can products of the previous and new modular purity grades (with new seals) be used simultaneously in one application?

Yes, if no batch attachment is required for the application, products of the old and new modular purity grades can be used, as their specifications are the same.

Is it possible to filter solutions using ep Dualfilter TIPS?

No, ep Dualfilter TIPS are not suitable for filtering liquids. They prevent aerosols migrating through the filter. In relation to penetrating fluid, Filtertips develop such strong adhesive forces that the movement of liquid is stopped immediately.

ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. from Eppendorf are filter pipette tips with a two-phase filter for contamination protection. The two filter layers, made of flexible, hydrophobic material, fit perfectly in the tip cone and retain practically 100 % of all aerosols and biomolecules. This filtering effect is achieved using various, well-defined pore sizes. The layer facing the sample provides protection from drops, splashes and aerosols. The layer facing the pipette tip cone functions as a second barrier from contamination, and reliably binds biomolecules. A defined air passage rate ensures full sample recovery and the customary quick pipetting you're used to.

ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. and ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. SealMax filter pipette tips have even been tested for filtration performance under the standard EN 29463 - Standard of filtration performance testing of filters - yielding a minimum particle collection efficiency of 99.5 % with test aerosol particles sizes of 0.05 - 0.5 µm - making them ideal for applications in clean rooms and in the pharmaceutical industry.

ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. in the purity grade PCR clean / Sterile are sterilized by electron beams, certified pyrogen-free and PCR clean (free from human DNA, DNase, RNase and PCR-inhibiting substances). ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. Forensic DNA Grade are free of detectable Human DNA, DNase, RNase and PCR inhibitors.

ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. in PCR clean / Sterile as well as ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. in Forensic DNA Grade are available in disposable Racks, the Rack body of which is made of "single-source" intra-type collection polypropylene recyclate from contact lens manufacturing. There is now also a brand new ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. BioBased in Sterile Reloads for insertion into the epT.I.P.S.^® Box 2.0.

Disposal of ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. pipette tips and their packaging material

Recycling of materials becomes more and more important every day. E.g. in Europe almost 100 % of cardboard material is already recycled. The packaging material of the ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. pipette tips is made of different materials – for the most part made from cardboard.
Eppendorf consumables and thus also ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. pipette tips are shipped in packaging in which both the shipping carton consists of at least 37 % and the folding carton consist of at least 60 % recycled cardboard.
Please support our global sustainability initiative of recycling valuable raw material by collecting the cardboard packaging material of tubes. Dispose of the packaging material in the designated collection containers in your organization and region.
After usage, the tips themselves are defined as potentially being contaminated. This contamination can be based on biohazard, chemical hazard, or even nuclear hazard. Therefore, recycling of these tips can be challenging. In many countries, critical waste must be burned due to legal restrictions. However, energy and heat can be recovered from thermal recycling of contaminated laboratory consumables.
To reduce the amount of critical plastic waste, you should use at least two waste containers: One for critical waste and one for non-critical waste. The definition of these two groups may depend on local regulations and should be communicated/trained in your lab accordingly. For further local waste recycling options please contact your local biosafety officer and your local waste management.
We strongly recommend a certified local recycling partner. Keeping it "local" will reduce the impact of transportation, and the "certified" aspect is recommended due to the safe and sustainable handling of lab waste.
