Are Eppendorf products free of RNA?

All products certified with "PCR clean" are tested free of human DNA, DNase, RNase and PCR inhibitors. The following applies from our point of view: Where no human DNA is detected, there can also be no RNA, which is considerably more unstable.

What is the meaning of the PCR Clean seal?

For molecular-biological requirements Eppendorf offers a new standard for uniform purity specifications. All consumables marked with the "Certified PCR Clean” label are guaranteed free of human DNA, DNase, RNase and PCR inhibitors.

Why are there double labels on the folding boxes, as "PCR clean" + "Sterile" or "PCR clean" + "Protein-free"?

Due to the modularization of purity grades, some products are labeled with more than one purity grade symbol. For example, the epDualfilter T.I.P.S. has the double seal "PCR clean "+ "Sterile" and the UVette the double seal "PCR clean" + "Protein-free" on the packing. The certification remains unaffected by the modularization.

Are lot specific certificates for the purity grades available in the internet?

Yes, the lot specific purity certificates, so-called Test report, can be downloaded at the certificates homepage .

Can products of the previous and new modular purity grades (with new seals) be used simultaneously in one application?

Yes, if no batch attachment is required for the application, products of the old and new modular purity grades can be used, as their specifications are the same.

What distinguishes the DNA LoBind Tube from a "Standard" Safe-Lock Tube?

In comparison to a Safe-Lock Tube, the DNA LoBind Tube shows significantly less DNA bonding affinity. This effect is most apparent with high salt concentrations and when working with short DNA fragments. The DNA LoBind Tube is therefore especially suitable for applications that should be carried out with the minimum loss of nucleic acid material.

Do the Eppendorf LoBind Tubes have the same material durability as all other micro test tubes from Eppendorf?

The Eppendorf LoBind Tubes completely satisfy the specifications of the Eppendorf Standard Safe Lock tubes with reference to centrifugation stability (exception: Protein LoBind Tube), lid tightness, pop up safety and chemical resistance. (See Application No. 56: The best material for original Eppis.)

Are the Eppendorf LoBind Tubes coated?

Not the Eppendorf LoBind Tubes are neither siliconized nor coated. The low binding affinity results from of a special type of polypropylene and the optimized manucturing process.

What is the material of the Eppendorf Protein LoBind Tubes and its influence on autoclavability?

The Protein LoBind material is a proprietary polypropylene (PP) blend with lower hydrophobicity allowing strong reduction of molecule binding to the PP surface. It has essentially same physical properties as the standard PP. Regarding autoclaving, please note the following: Our Protein LoBind Tubes 0.5 mL/1.5 mL/ 2.0 mL and 5.0 mL with snap cap withstand autoclaving when opened at 121 °C, 1 bar, 20 minutes. If the use of sterile tubes is needed, we rather recommend checking whether our Safe-Lock Tubes 0.5 mL/1.5 mL/ 2.0 mL and the 5.0 mL tube with snap cap (all without LoBind surface) made in Biopur quality may be more suitable here. The Protein LoBind Tubes 5.0 mL with screw cap, 15 mL/ 25 mL and 50 mL are not autoclavable. Please check whether the standard variants (without LoBind surface) offered in Sterile purity grade may be more suitable here.

Are Eppendorf tubes and plates (also LoBind variants) resistant to 100% acetonitrile?

Eppendorf tubes and plates including LoBind variants are resistant against 100% acetonitrile only in room temperature conditions. Above 40°C and prolonged exposure (days) may lead to partial damage and is not recommended. For lower acetonitrile concentrations the resistance parameters will be better so prolonged exposure and higher temperatures may be possible. This must be however tested by the customer.

Eppendorf LoBind^® Tubes offer greater recovery potential when compared to a low bind competitor tube. An assessment of Eppendorf LoBind^® Tube consistency in the preparation and storage of standards for real-time PCR absolute quantifications showed that the low adsorption of DNA to LoBind^® Tubes improved the quality of standard curves and DNA quantification in assayed samples.
