When was Eppendorf founded?
Eppendorf was founded in 1945 in Hamburg, Germany, by a working group led by Dr. Heinrich Netheler and Dr. Hans Hinz.

What are the key milestones in Eppendorf’s history?
- 1950s: Development of the “Eppendorf” photometer
- 1960s: Launch of the world’s first industrially manufactured piston-stroke pipette (“Marburg pipette”) and the first “Eppendorf Tubes.” Introduction of the “Microliter System Eppendorf.” Completion of the headquarters on Barkhausenweg in Hamburg, Germany.
- 1970s: Opening of a production site for disposable plastic consumables in Oldenburg (Schleswig‑Holstein), Germany; launch of the Multipette 4780.
- 1980s: Eppendorf becomes a registered global brand; surpasses 100 million DM in revenue and employs more than 1,000 people for the first time.
- 1990s: Systematic internationalization with subsidiaries in Europe, North America, and Asia. Acquisition of German centrifuge manufacturer Heinz Janetzki Maschinenbau KG in Leipzig, Germany.
- 2000s: Opening of a new manufacturing site in Enfield, Connecticut, USA; launch of the Research® plus pipette.
- 2010s: Eppendorf introduces more products than ever before, employing 2,500 people in 21 countries and operating in all major global markets.
- 2020s: Acquisition of the centrifuge business of Japan’s Koki Holdings Co., Ltd.; surpassing €1 billion in revenue for the first time. Launch of Biobased Consumables. Opening of a new production site in Pinghu, China.
