Nucleic acid purification
Nucleic acid purification (NAP) is fundamental for isolating high‑quality DNA or RNA and supports reliable results in downstream applications.
About the nucleic acid purification workflow
Nucleic Acid Purification (NAP) is the process of preparing high-quality DNA or RNA samples for downstream analysis. Primary samples may range from cell cultures over blood to bacterial and plant materials. The two major routes to obtain pure nucleic acids are filtration-based systems, e.g. spin columns or filter plates, as well as magnetic bead-based processes.
Even though being routine workflows in most laboratories, doing NAP takes hours of manual labour, particularly when working with many samples in parallel.

Challenges in nucleic acid purification
- Labour-intensive processes
- Risk of cross-contamination, sample mix-up, and loss of sample
- Handling difficult samples and challenging reagents
- Need for high reproducibility and traceability
