            The backbone of your discovery

In shared labs, core facilities, and biotech or pharma environments, one centrifuge often serves many users and applications. Centrifuge 5811 R is designed for exactly this setting. With up to 3 L capacity and speeds up to 20,913 × g (14,000 rpm), it covers routine centrifugation of tubes, bottles, and plates in one benchtop instrument – from cell pellets and bacteria to nucleic acid and protein preparations or clinical samples.

The cooling system uses propane (R290) with a low global warming potential (GWP = 3), delivering high energy efficiency and meeting evolving environmental standards, while providing reliable temperature control from −9 °C to +40 °C. ECO shut‑off and an aerodynamic bucket design further support energy‑conscious lab operation.
Transitioning from a Centrifuge 5810 R setup is straightforward, as existing swing‑bucket and fixed‑angle rotors remain compatible with Centrifuge 5811 R1,2, reducing additional hardware investments and simplifying the upgrade path. Combined with a strong price‑performance ratio, this makes the Centrifuge 5811 R a practical allrounder for labs that route many experiments through one centrifugation hub.

            Versatility for your discovery

Centrifuge 5811 R offers up to 3 L capacity – for example 4 × 750 mL or 28 × 50 mL / 56 × 15 mL in a single run – making it suitable for medium to high sample throughput. A portfolio of 15 rotors and numerous adapters accommodate standard tubes, bottles, flasks, and plates, while mixed bucket loading enables simultaneous centrifugation of different vessel types. Maximum speeds of up to 20,913 × g (14,000 rpm) support fast, reproducible results.

The instrument can be used with vessels from 0.2 mL to 750 mL, providing one solution for many applications. It remains compatible with the rotors of Centrifuge 5810/5810 R, so existing rotor assets can continue to be used.

            Ergonomics and ease of use

An intuitive keypad and dedicated program key provide direct access to up to 35 user‑defined programs, saving time at every run. The low access height supports comfortable loading and unloading, while the Soft‑Touch Lid allows easy closing. Our Eppendorf QuickLock® rotor lids and caps enable safe operation. Quiet operation supports a focused working environment, and the light‑weight rotor design simplifies rotor handling.

Safety for your samples and users

Centrifuge 5811 R supports safe operation through automatic rotor recognition and imbalance detection. Aerosol‑tight rotor lids and caps are tested and verified to help protect users and samples when working with hazardous or sensitive materials. Reliable refrigeration performance safeguards temperature‑sensitive samples throughout the run.

            Sustainability for your discovery

The cooling system of Centrifuge 5811 R uses propane (R290) as a refrigerant, with a low GWP of 3 that supports the sustainability targets of modern laboratories. ECO shut‑off modes and the aerodynamic bucket design help reduce energy consumption. Rotors made from recyclable aluminum support responsible use of resources.

            End-of-life

            Disposal of packaging
The packaging of the Eppendorf Centrifuge 5811 R contains different materials, this can include a wooden pallet, cardboard, a plastic dust cover, and some foam parts. Recycling of materials becomes more and more important every day: Are you aware that nearly all cardboard material is recycled in Europe? Our centrifuge packaging cardboard material consists of ca. 50% recycling material. Please support the global sustainability initiative of recycling valuable raw material by also collecting the centrifuge cardboard packaging material and disposing of it in the appropriate collection container at your organization. In respect to the plastic dust cover made of LD-PE and the foam parts, we recommend to select a dedicated recycling partner where PE material can be recycled. We suggest you contact your local waste hauler or facility management team to understand the available recycling options for your organization.

            Disposal of instrument
Our Eppendorf Centrifuge 5811 R last for many years, but if they need to be replaced, we kindly ask you to fulfill local requirements for disposal of these instruments. We strongly recommend a certified local recycling partner with experience in instruments with active cooling. Keeping it “local“ reduces the impact of transportation, and the "certified" aspect is recommended due to the safe and sustainable removal and recycling of the cooling liquids if it is a refrigerated centrifuge.

            Decontamination
This piece of equipment was used in a laboratory and/ or was used to handle biological samples. Please keep in mind to adequately decontaminate the equipment which needs to be disposed. Check local requirements. For more information, get in contact with your local biosafety officer and/ or waste officer. Check if your local recycling partner has special instructions and/ or documentation requirements. You may also use the Eppendorf decontamination form sheet as guidance.
