Which Eppendorf lab tubes should I choose?

What tube types and sizes do you need?

When it comes to which Eppendorf lab tubes you should select, one of the most important considerations is your intended applications. For molecular biology applications including PCR and real-time PCR, choose our single Eppendorf PCR tubes or Eppendorf Fast PCR Tube Strips. These small tube products are ‘PCR clean’ and can accommodate volumes up to 0.5 mL.

For a wide range of everyday lab tasks, our Flex-Tubes^® are considerable option. These microcentrifuge tubes are available in 0.5 mL, 1.5 mL, and 2.0 mL sizes.

Working with proteins or nucleic acids?

Proteins and nucleic acids can stick to the surface of lab tubes, reducing sample recovery and potentially skewing your accuracy and reproducibility. Low binding tubes (also known as low bind tubes or LoBind tubes) are designed to overcome this issue, with surfaces that prevent the adsorption of proteins or nucleic acids. Two types of Eppendorf LoBind® Tubes are available, Protein LoBind^® and DNA LoBind^® , in sizes ranging from 0.5 mL to 50 mL.

Have you considered laboratory tube color?

Although lab tubes are typically colorless, if you’re handling light-sensitive samples or reagents, you should use amber-colored tubes to prevent direct light exposure and avoid adverse effects on your experiments. A wide range of our lab tubes, including Safe-Lock Tubes, microcentrifuge tubes, and Conical Tubes, are available in amber material, providing a good level of sample protection against light transmission, including short wavelength UV/VIS light.
